What's with all the hearts?

In 2004, the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation placed hearts interpreted by artists around the City of San Francisco as a fundraiser. Many remain in place or have been housed in new locations by the patrons who purchased them at the end of the fundraiser. Several remain on display in Union Square. That, in conjunction with Tony Bennett's famous song gave the committee one of the themes for the 2010 conference.
